All countries should benefit from fast-moving ICT revolution, urges UN

The challenge of the digital divide needs to be addressed if Sustainable Development goals are to be obtained.

 

A recent UN report outlines how information and communications technologies ( ICTs ) will improve billions of lives yet leave the world’s poorest populations without access. Houlin Zhao, Secretary-General of the UN International Telecommunication Union , addressed the challenges associated in bridging the divide between these populations. The report called for improved infrastructure to enable the successful adoption of ICTs including big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Security and privacy challenges will require innovative policies.
