Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources
Our earth is unique because of our oceans. All life depends on water. Oceans connect nations through networks of trade and transportation. Marine habitats are responsible for providing biodiversity, food supply, oxygen, and even moderating climate and weather. Nearly half of the world’s population relies on marine ecosystems for their main sources of protein. Overfishing, pollution, destruction of marine and coastal habitats, and other human activities are adversely impacting sustainable development.

FAO has set aside funding dedicated to supporting poorer countries in developing technical, scientific, and legal frameworks to support successful outcomes from the initiative.
