Sustainable Development Goal #4 Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning

Providing the global population with all levels of education is necessary for a prosperous society. Access to education is restricted in isolated geographies. Enrollment rates for the most vulnerable populations including women and girls are deficient. Although progress in primary enrollment rates is improving, a majority of countries are falling short of targets to provide all levels of education. Promotion of sustainable development skills and knowledge areas is critical for healthy, inclusive communities. Skills necessary for entry into the workforce require access to technical, vocational, and tertiary levels of education.

Why It Matters

Communities in which children have the opportunity to enroll in school are stronger and more inclusive. Education promotes tolerance and peace which improves people’s ability to secure employment and break the cycle of poverty. The spread of information is critical for reducing gender inequalities. Information about good nutrition promotes healthier households. Progress of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) depends on the spread of information through access to education.
